That’s it, I’m officially old!

Nobody will have spoken to me on last Friday as I took the day off to “celebrate” my 30th Birthday.

Most people that know me, know that I’m a grumpy, negative, moaning old git anyway, and have been since I turned 22 – coincidentally the same age as when I bought my first house and started paying a mortgage, as well as all the other bills! You all know where I’m coming from! But ending my 20’s has utterly depressed me!

Don’t get me wrong I have enjoyed my 20’s immensely, taking in a number of awesome holidays including Dubai, Miami & Barbados to name a few, as well as sailing on roughly 12 different cruise ships. I have been very privileged looking back. I’m just not really about Birthdays.

And………..I do like to have a whinge……

I think I’m so down about it because I have not accomplished a few things that I wanted to by this age.

Winning the lottery was the first……would I be writing this if that had happened? Maybe, from a beach in Antigua, not a cold office in Manchester!

But in more realistic terms, I always wanted to visit New York & Las Vegas before I was 30, perhaps work abroad, and most importantly be driving a Mercedes.

None of these things have happened. But there is a reason.

As previously discussed in other blogs, my wife to be and I do not agree on holidays in any way shape or form, she likes the East, I like the West. Basically my dreams of driving down Route 66 on a Harley were crushed when she decides to reveal that she has no interest in going to America. SHe prefers the less developed world. Island hopping in Thailand, sleeping in huts, and sleeping in a tent on the African plains is more her thing. Unfortunately I like luxury, home comforts, and a good hot shower! So you see my dilemma!

However, one thing that we do both agree on and enjoy (of course) is cruising. I mean if I didn’t like cruising why would I have been selling them since I was 18!

And that’s another thing while I’m on that topic, 12 years I’ve been in cruise sales and I’m still the boss of anyone! Where have I gone wrong here?!

Anyway I digress as ever.

My point is this, cruising is awesome. No seriously. Here is me moaning about my age and life status, scared to tell my other half that our next holiday is going to the USA, when really I needn’t be worried at all.

All I have to do is tell her we are going on a cruise, and she’s going to be happy as Larry!

You see, cruising delivers variety. And any women reading this will know that variety is the spice of life! What is they say a womans prerogative is, to change her mind? I think so.

So with a cruise, I can have my luxury, and she can have her adventure. I can have my champagne and sunshine, she can have her rucksack and bottled water!

Even the age isn’t an issue, we have been on many ships together and my friends always say – isn’t cruising for oldies? Nonsense I tell them. Granted there a large number of over 50s, even 60s & 70s – some in their 80s and 90s – but I see this as a massive advantage! You get far more interesting chat from someone with life experience, and it helps you gain knowledge and develop more goals of your own. You wouldnt get that on a 18-30s to to Ibiza! Not that I ever been on an 18-30s holiday…………more than once……..well twice…………ok three times…………four, four I meant four. But that was peer pressure obviously.

Anyway my point is this, anyone looking for a holiday that literally delivers everything, should be looking at a cruise before anything else, and these days with the economic downturn in recent years, prices are better than ever! As I write this I have just finished booking a couple aboard Emerald Princess for 7 nights in July for less than £500pp!!!

Thanks for listening to me moan today anyway I look forward to your comments. Perhaps you are new to cruise & just want a bit of advice – well I’m here waiting!

For my regular readers and past customers, I am away for 2 weeks as of Friday afternoon so please direct your enquiries to the main office, unless you are happy to wait for me to get back!

Have a great end to May and a better start to June, and as always, until next time……………
