Cruise & Maritime taking over UK!

With all hassle that comes with flying nowadays, sailing from the UK has never been more popular.

Usually you would associate household names like P&O as the main cruise line to sail from our shores, and to be fair, if you are talking Southampton, then P&O is probably right.

A few years back a little known company called Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) bought the ever popular Marco Polo, put their own stamp on it, and sailed her from Tilbury port in London.

I remember thinking, well, it didn;t last at Orient Lines or Transocean Tours, why would it work now?

But in fairness to CMV, the ship has had several very successful seasons sailing all over the place, which has allowed CMV to bring ships such as Magellan and soon Columbus to the UK and start really opening up our smaller ports.

Of course Fred Olsen, their closest rival, has been doing this very successfully for many years, so it’s going to be interesting to see if CMV can rival such a great brand as Fred Olsen!

It’s an exciting, if a little uncertain time for the UK so it’s really great to see the top brass at CMV putting their faith in UK ports, places like Newcastle, Liverpool, Belfast, Dundee, Bristol and of course Tilbury, really make cruising even more accessible without the pain in the backside that is flying.

Surely this will boost our domestic tourist trade, and more importantly bring newer people into cruising, giving them a nice easy, good value introduction to this brilliant holiday.

Focusing on mainly adults with the odd exception, CMV chooses the stereotypical British style cruise themes on board which I think will do very well here in the coming years.

They also have amazing value promotions on regularly, such as BOGOF and reduced rates out of season. This makes them affordable, which is very important in today’s economic market.

So well done CMV, I am looking forward to seeing how you grow here on our UK shores and wish you all the best!
