Ibiza Sunsets

Looking back at the year I have been lucky to have visited some lovely places. I think the place that surprised me the most was actually Ibiza. It wasn’t what I thought it would be like at all. In the past people have always said what a beautiful island it is but I couldn’t help comparing it to Menorca which I really did fall in love with, and I don’t think it was a patch on. This making it sound worse than  it was, don’t get me wrong the scenery driving around was beautiful, and I was surprised at how hilly it was. I can understand how popular it is with all age groups as the music in the big clubs is very mixed and has something for everyone. We were here for three nights in September and our first night was a relaxing one spent at the hotel. The reason for the trip is because me and my friends all hit the milestone of forty this year and wanted to celebrate. I must admit Ibiza wasn’t my choice and felt slightly embarrassed when people asked where we were going. However Ibiza it was and off we went. The first day we explored San Antonio Bay which was quiet either because it was coming towards the end of the season or everyone was still in bed after last nights antics.

The second day we awoke to awful rain so I suggested that we hire a car for the day, that way we were getting out and still doing something. In hindsight we all said we were glad it did rain in a funny sort of way as otherwise we would have lazed by the pool. At least this way we had an adventure round the island and drove to a few resorts I had heard of. The first town we visited was Es Cana which I thought was lovely and despite the rain we looked around the harbor and had found a quirky cafe. The second town we drove to was Santa Eulalia, luckily it had started to brighten up and we got out and had a look along the beach. This resort still had a clubby feel to it and there was one right on the seafront with a DJ console and large swan like beds to float on the pool. Our final stop where we had the largest salad I have ever seen was Portinax.

To be honest if my transfer coach dropped me off here for a week I would be disappointed. There seemed to be the smallest of coves and not many shops or restaurants.

Our main evening was the Saturday and we had booked a table a Cafe Mambos and had a table overlooking San Antonio which is a prime spot to watch the famous sunset. With the table being in the best location it came at a price of minimum spend 100 euros per person. This didn’t take long to spend as the bottles of presecco started at 45 euros. The sunset at 8pm and I must admit it was fantastic, the atmosphere was incredible as the DJ played some softer tunes and it really was a memorable experience that I will always remember. My photos don’t really do it justice but the main thing is we all had a wonderful time.
