Carnival Vista

Stylish, Bright, Slick and Fun- these are just a few words I would use to describe the new Carnival Vista.

I have recently returned from a four night stay on Carnivals newest ship – and it didn’t disappoint. Our first glimpse of it was on approach to landing at Heraklion airport and this is when the excitement really kicked in. The port of Heraklion is about 10 minutes away so in no time at all we were embarking on the ship. On first impression I found it very modern in decor and bright colours throughout. The atrium is fascinating with its constant changing of colours. At one point it changed to stingray swimming around. Below this is a bar area and it gives off a real calming relaxed atmosphere.

I was lucky enough to get a balcony cabin , although not the biggest I’ve seen there is just about enough room for two chairs and a table. It was lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by. The cabin itself is of good size and we had plenty of wardrobe space. Also a sofa which converted into a bed and a min bar.

Whilst on  board we ate in the Speciality restaurants but I’m going to go in to more detail on my next blog.

The ship itself takes 3,936 but there was never a time I felt there was that many passengers on board, and it was full to capacity. During the day we relaxed around the Tides Pool at the back of the ship and like most pools on ships it wasn’t very big, but then I wasn’t expecting it to be. Next to the pool area were two hot tubs and these really were. As were were experiencing 30 degrees temperature I couldn’t stay in  for long. It was great that there was complimentary lemonade and ice tea available 24 hours a day as you really needed it in the heat. Walking inside you came to the Lido Marketplace which is the buffet restaurant. The choice of food no one would go hungary, anything from salads, deli meats, fresh fruit it -really was an array of loveliness. The small puddings were delicious and they also served fresh ice cream.

The second pool was bigger with an outdoor cinema which in the evening they played films. Around this area was also the  Redfrog Rum Bar, Blueguana Cantina and my favourite Guy’s Burger Joint. I can honestly say this is the best burger I have ever eaten in my life. So simple as well, a patty with bacon, cheese and a onion ring. Not sure what they did but it was amazing.

At the front of the ship is Serenity and this really is a place of relaxation. Here there are hammocks and sunbeds with comfortable mattresses, the only down side we thought is it needed a pool. It really is a sun trap but also quite a way from the nearest pool if you fancied a quick dip to cool off.

One of my favourite places was the waterpark. Here there are two slides and a wet area with water sprays. Children were having a fantastic time and it was good that it was away from the main pool as not to interupt serious sun bathers. On this deck there was so much for you to do, from Crazy Golf, Basket Ball and the Sky Rail. Which is a buggy that hangs from a track and you cycle around. At one point you go out over the ocean. Admitidly I did venture up to go on this but chickened out at the last minute as it is high. Opposite to the Sky Rail are the climbing ropes which would be more my pace. I know my boy’s would absolutely love all that there is to offer. I would feel completely comfortable if they wanted to go off to do one of these activities as there is staff here at all times.

In the evening we all met as a group at Havanas Lounge Bar and this is one of the many venues to choose from, It really does have a Cuban feel and a guitarist playing up to date hits. To the back of here there is children’s area with table football. When everyone has had enough and want a bit of a boogie the place to head to is Liquid Lounge. But before the DJ hits the decks this is where the shows are. The first night was a spectacular dance show which really was impressive. At one point the lights went off and all you could see where the bottom of the dancers shoes as they lit up, it really was spectacular. The second night was a Rock show still very good even if its not your cup of tea.

You really can’t get bored on this ship there is so much for everyone to do young or young at heart. If the Casino didn’t appeal then there was always the shops to look around and there were plenty. The best one I thought was Cherry on Top, which is a sweet shop, I managed to pick up some lovely presents for my boy’s. There is also the IMAX, which is a state of the art cinema which you pay around $12 per person.

For children during the day they can go the the children’s club called Dr Seuss Bookville. This is located on top deck and is so colourful, with lots of activities for them all to do.

Dr SeussThis is just one of the rooms.

There really is so much to do with little time to get bored. Everyone I spoke to was saying how much they were enjoying their time on the Carnival Vista. I was pleased to say that there is another one planned for 2018 and hopefully this one may stay in the Med longer as this one is heading to Miami at the end of the season.

Catch up with me soon for my next blog where I will go into more details on the restaurants.
