Cruising IS for old people!

Ok, before you attack my youngself please don’t  think I have a vendetta  against the elderly,  in fact – quite the opposite! I actually get on better with maturer folk than my own generation! But I wanted to talk about cruising, of course everybody who hasn’t been on a cruise will always tell you that it is only for old people and all they do is sit around knitting singing ‘It’s a long way to…’ drinking gaviscon from the bottle. But actually this is not quite true.

So lets discuss, I know for a fact that if my own Grandmother joined me on a cruise she would be thrilled to learn that they had embroidery lessons, pilates for the over 60’s, a passenger choir and language classes – all of these and more are really something that you can get involved with – it brings you out of your shell and you make new friends. As one of  my  dear friends used to say ‘A stranger is only a friend you haven’t met yet’.

The other activity on board today’s cruise ships that really does engage the brain and pass time between the eating schedule is Lectures, whether it be on a port, ship, era, war or general  life experiences there is a huge array of lecture topics. I know of an ex Prison guard, the last pilot of Concorde, along with familiar faces such as Wayne Sleep, Celia Imrie, Nigel Havers, and even musicians and artists will join you on board to give you an unforgettable line up making sure you  enjoy your time on board.

So what do you think? Over 60’s… what’s your favourite thing to do aboard?

Happy Cruising!
