Paying for a sunbed abroad. I’m not sure If I think its a good thing or not!!!!

I was shocked by the news yesterday that Thomas Cook announced that it would enable customers in three of its hotels to prebook a sunbed, causing widespread speculation that 30 years of lounger wars may finally be over. I cant seem to get my head around whether or not this is a good thing.

Thomas Cook customers willing to pay 25 euros (£22) will be able to book a specific lounger for their entire stay.It says it is the UK’s first package holiday company to provide such a service. Thomas Cook believes its new service will prove popular with families who want to spend more time together in their preferred location.

Before starting to work for cruise.co.uk I worked for Thomas cook for over 6 years and have also been on many of their holidays. Although getting a sunbed has never been an issue for me and even if I couldn’t get a bed, I don’t think I would care to much either. I know for some customers that this is one of there major bug bears. For as long as I can remember customers have complained about having to get up at 5am to put their towels down to make sure they have somewhere to lay.( Sad I know)

My thoughts on this are, where does it end? You already have to pay to sit next to your friends or family on the plane and 20kg of luggage. Will we next have to pay to use the toilet or use the pool? Being quite a stingy type I think for me I would rather not pay when you can go to the beach or even lay your towel on the floor.

I think a solution to this would just get enough sun loungers for the amount of guests travelling, like you have on a cruise maybe. I have never had problems getting a lounger on board.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this. Would you pay to have a lounger?? Do you think its a good idea or just a way to make extra cash.
