The majority of large cruise ships have a center point of the ship known as the Atrium and most have a beautiful stairwell and are surrounded or overlooked by areas that include bars, cafes and general seating. P&O Britannia is no different and they have designed a spectacular feature known as the Starburst (not to be mistaken for those popular juicy sweets) and this is the main focal point of the Atrium on the Britannia. And yes it is a center piece like no other.
The colours change throughout red, white and blue and it really is a beautiful piece of art. The surrounding area of the Atrium is also very well designed and spacious, very calming and has a feel of a grand hotel lobby. With beautiful curving staircases leading to two further open areas above the from deck 5 to deck 7. Choices of different bars, shops and also the fabulous patisserie ‘Market Cafe’ designed by Eric Lanlard.
This area is most definitely a beautiful place to meet with other guests and mingle, enjoy a pre or post dinner drink whilst listening to some music. Or during the day somewhere to sit and read or catch up with a newspaper or even sit and people watch.
The ship has various shops on board including boutiques with designers such as Michael Kors, Crew Clothing, Swarovski, Pandora, Ralph Lauren and the list goes on. So watch out as this could cause a serious dent in your wallet. But remember too, that in some ports it could be tax free! They also have the standard shops selling perfume and beauty products, duty free and the obligatory convenience store in case you forgot your toothbrush.
The shops on board offer the perfect shopping experience in a more intimate manner.
One of the nice thing is, that you sit and a waiter will come to you, cheers.
As far as Atriums goes, this is by far a beautiful area and hats off to the designers and P&O for making Britannia their best ship yet.
