Earlier this week and in the past too, I spoken to some cruise guests whom have just returned from their P&O cruise.
One of the topic of conversations we had was regarding the cabin size, the bathroom and the balcony size. Having sailed on the P&O Ventura earlier this year in a standard balcony cabin, I sort of see where my guests whom have just returned have a criticism regarding the cabin and bathroom size.
The standard cabins are adequate for 2 guests, if there was a 3rd or 4th passenger in the cabin it would be very uncomfortable, I will always recommend my guests upgrade to one of the large cabins if travelling with more than 2 guests. There is no seating area as such, just a dressing table with a chair , although the wardrobe area was a good size, the bathroom was very small. The Ventura has small bathrooms with a shower cubical and a shower curtain and it is very compact and I can imagine not very comfortable if you are of a larger size. Believe me, I am no slim Jim and my main problem was the shower curtain had a habit of wrapping itself to me whilst I was in the shower! It was handy having the toilet directly there though, especially for us ladies needing to shave our legs!!
Now, on my most recent trip on the MSC Preziosa, I was expecting sort of the same size as these newer ships do seem to be compromising more on the actual cabin space for more public areas, see my recent blog Is bigger better? where I touch on cabin size on the newer ships.
However, both my colleagues and myself where all really pleased with how spacious the cabin was. We was fortunate to have a B2 category Balcony cabin on the Fantastica Experience with MSC and the cabin was not only beautiful but very well spaced as was the bathroom. Our balcony was the average size, but some of my colleagues had slightly larger balconies due to the positioning of their cabins. Now the bathroom, I can safely say that it was not a fight with the shower curtain each time you wanted a shower as the shower cubical was full size and even had glass doors. Rather than use the loo this time to shave my legs I actually had space in the shower cubical without ending up in cuts and bruises! Bonus..

One of my colleagues even mentioned and blogged about the fact he had so many coat-hangers in the wardrobe he didn’t have enough clothes to use them all and I agree (being a women) the cabins are supplied with plenty of coat-hangers, wardrobe space and drawers.
Having been on some of the newer ships and seeing the space available, I was mightily impressed with MSC cabins on a new ship, it reminded me of the space you used to get on some of the older smaller cruise ships.
We did also get to see an inside cabin and an ocean view cabin and again we was impressed with the size and the bathrooms were the same throughout. The Ocean view was one of their obstructed cabins, but as you can see from the photo (apologies can’t seem to spin this photo), I think this is not as obstructed as some might think.
So again, MSC are coming up with great space, beautiful ships and great value for money.. more on MSC next week…
