El Chorro Lakes and a bit of Towie…

So as I mentioned in my last blog I am currently on holiday with friends enjoying the country I live in – Spain.

My friends daughter arrived last week and even though I have had to work a few days whilst they have been here, they have kept their selves amused by going to the beach most days. It’s been difficult not being able to join them when I have had days working, but we will certainly be making up for it over the next week.

This week, Amber (my friends daughter whom is 20 next week) was desperate to go to the restaurant of TOWIE star Elliot Wright. Especially as he has recently had his own TV show documenting his dramas with opening a new restaurant and surviving on the coast, a notorious place for many Brits failures.. On the show ‘Playa in Marbella’ on ITV Be (Stupid name by the way) they kept advertising the restaurant as being in Marbella. For the record it isn’t, it is actually based in the beautiful beach town of La Cala de Mijas, and is around 30 minutes from Marbella and only about 15 minutes from my place.

As expected the restuarant was beautiful, very well designed for both outdoor and indoor eating, a great bar area and dance floor. We headed down there on Thursday evening and it was packed. We hadn’t booked a table but was lucky to be seated for dinner within 10 minutes of arriving.

The atmosphere was great, with a Robbie Williams tribute act and a DJ for after, we left near to 2am in the morning and it was still going. The food was good, but certainly not worth €23 for a burger and a few chips. Drinks was expensive, average of €10 for a spirit and mixer, €15 for a cocktail and €2.50 for a soft drink. So even though it’s not in Marbella or Puerto Banus, they certainly charge prices like they are!

Not the Real Robbie Williams!!

I would go again for a special occasion (Amber now wants to celebrate her 20th there next week) but other than that it will not be becoming a local place to go.

We didn’t get to see the Owner, but we did see some of the other people featured in the show such as young Curtis and the very sexy manager Jeremy.

Yesterday, we headed in land for a bit of R&R at the beautiful Spanish Lakes El Chorro.

Approx 40 minutes from Malaga on a very easy route, we parked up and took the steep hill down to the waters edge. It is a very pretty place and part of a Natural Reserve so well protected. Lots of families there but the one thing I did notice was the limit on the amount of guests in each area. Happy with that to stop overcrowding, littering and keeping the area as pristine as possible. They have a varierty of water activities available such as pedalos for hire, kayaking, infaltable water course to keep the kids active and amused plus paddle boarding.

I would certainly recommend a visit if ever you was staying in the Malaga region. If you was coming into the port, it is possible to do this in the allotted time of the ship docking, but you would have to hire a car as there is no local transport to the area.

It will certainly be a place I will return to again.

So now off again on my next week of entertaining with a trip to Malaga next week and potentially Nerja too..

Dawn

xx
