First for Same Sex Weddings at Sea

So we have just recently heard that the favourite British cruise line P&O and Cunard will be one of the first for same sex marriages as sea! Now in this day in age you would expect all cruise lines to be following suit. This comes as great news as the United Kingdom celebrates the 50th anniversary of LGBT being decriminalised.

The new legalisation follows a landmark ruling earlier this year that legalised same sex marriage in Bermuda. Now for most that have had Weddings at sea with P&O will know that unfortunately Britannia will not be one of the ships that will have Weddings at sea. Weddings at sea can only be performed if the ship is Bermudan registered, as Britannia is registered in the UK they are unfortunately not able to conduct weddings on-board, whether hetrosexual or LGBT. Although we could see this change in the foreseeable future.

Princess Cruise lines are also reportedly planning to offer same sex marriages across 13 of its ships registered in Bermuda, but is yet to reveal when.

As always, the Wedding ceremonies will be performed by the Captain and the marriage licenses will be registered to Bermuda. P&O and Cunard have several different Weddings at sea packages available depending on the cruise itinerary.

Prices based on P&O from 2015 – 2017

Weddings at Sea Package
World cruises and Exotic fly cruise £1200
Mediterranean £1500
Caribbean £1750
Additional marriage certificates ordered at the time of booking £30 per copy
Additional marriage certificates ordered afterwards £40 per copy

Of course there will be other optional extras that you can pre-book at an additional cost such as Groom the Groom, Wedding cakes, Floral arrangements, Champagne breakfast in bed and gifts for special people. As I’m sure there may also be some strange wacky requests by the LGBT clientele and I am sure that the Wedding departure will try their upmost to adhere to these.
