You’re suddenly a millionaire – What would you do first?

As much as I love my job, I always have that distant dream of getting 6 numbers on the lottery so that I can dedicate my life to what I do best – being on holiday & discovering the world!

I have always said that the first thing I would do is book a very long cruise to get me away from it all and give me some clear thinking time about how I am going to spend my millions. Of course my family & friends would be well looked after and there are many deserving charities that would benefit from me receiving a substantial windfall, but in fairness (and I know this may sound selfish)  the main reason I buy my lottery tickets week in week out is so that there is a miniscule chance that one day I will win and it will change my life. Well…a girl has to have a dream.

I read a report in a newspaper recently about a couple who had won a million pounds from the lottery twice in two years – a feat that the bookmakers said was less likely than seeing Elvis alive and well again! Good for them. It sounds like they are going to enjoy their spoils and live a great life. I have to admit that I always feel slightly irritated when big winners say that ‘it won’t change their lives’ and they go back to working a relatively normal life-albeit with no financial worries. I just wonder why they bother buying a ticket in the first place? I know it’s their money and they can live their lives as they want to. Maybe it’s a touch of the green-eyed monster creeping in…..?

Rest assured if and when my numbers come in I will be on the first plane to somewhere hot and sunny where I can book my ‘financial planning’ cruise whilst sitting on a beach. After the cruise I’ve then got the rest of the world to start on. Amongst the top places I have yet to to visit from my extensive bucket list are Machu Picchu in Peru, many parts of India, Australia, Argentina, Cappadocia in Turkey, the Italian lakes and I REALLY would like a cruise to see the Northern Lights.

So I think my life would be a mix of Judith Chalmers and Viv Nicholson….travel, travel travel and spend, spend spend!

I’d love to know what you would do with your millions?
