A Little Bit Of Winter Sun

Well, it’s been a long old slog this year. Finally the time has come for me to take a 2 week break and head off for some Winter sunshine. I have had some time off earlier in the year, but for me anything less than 2 weeks with my out of office message in place is not a true break. I also find that taking a break to somewhere hot & sunny at this time of year with it’s cold, snowy weather & short days is far more beneficial than going away & missing out on what little Summer we get.

I haven’t gone without my fix of cruising this year with trips on Royal Caribbean’s  Harmony of the Seas and MSC’s Preziosa earlier in the year and our Christmas conference/party will be held on the Boudicca with Fred Olsen in December. That will be my first experience with Fred Olsen & we get to spend a little time in one of my favourite cities, Dublin, so I’m really looking forward to that.

For my forthcoming trip I’m heading off to Cape Verde. The only reason I have chosen this destination is to get good weather without having to fly too far. The flight time is only around 5 and a half hours. Cape Verde is an up & coming destination which is travel agent’s speak for not much there and plenty of building work taking place. The hotels and beaches look fantastic and as long as there is sun in the sky I will be a happy bunny doing very little other than reading, sipping the odd cocktail and working on my tan.

As far as I can see I am not going to be immersed in culture during my stay. We will get out & about on occasion as I would certainly like to see more than just the airport and my hotel. It’s an unusual culture with African, Portugese and Creole influences – (I must brush up on my Portugese!). We are close to the main town on the island of Sal, so will be able to watch the fishermen haul in their catch on occasion as well as amble around and maybe sample some of the local seafood restaurants.

I will be back mid-December fully recharged and ready to get through Christmas, New Year and our busiest booking time of the year in January & February.

So long for now!
