NCL Breakaway

Late last night I got home from a fantastic night on the brand new NCL ship Norwegian Breakaway.

Travelling from Scotland down to Southampton was a breeze with a direct  morning flight from Edinburgh I had arrived in Southampton by 10.30am. From Southampton airport it is a short taxi ride to the cruise Terminal.

Once checked in on board I headed straight for my cabin.  I was in 11134 on deck 11 with a balcony. The cabin was nice and modern. I was pleasantly surprised with the size of the bathroom. The shower was a good size compared to some I have seen on other ships!

First thing first we sorted out our speciality dining for the evening and decided on Cagneys Steakhouse. By the time we arrived we were pretty peckish well we did leave early!! We headed to O’Sheehans bar and grill for a snack. For those who have cruised before you will know you never feel hungry on a cruise. NCL Breakaway certainly doesn’t disappoint with no less than 27 dining options you really are spoilt for choice. One of my favourite spots for a snack had to be ‘The Waterfront’ It is a quarter mile Oceanfront Promenade. Picture yourself miles out at Sea and eight decks above water. There is something for everyone from a sea side snack to fine dining or how about taking a seat in the Martini bar to watch the Sunset?

Next onto our ship tour. We headed up to deck 17 and started off at the three story Aqua Park and Sports complex. NCL Breakaway has 5 multi-story waterslides, travel at 40 miles an hour  as you race down ‘Free Fall’ Why not see if you would make a good pirate? You can ‘Walk the Plank’ A platform that extends eight feet over the side of the ship. For adrenaline junkies you have the climbing wall and largest ropes course at sea. Not forgetting the youngsters there is the kids Aqua Park with a life-size SpongeBob Square pants!!

Next stop The Haven only one word for it WOW! A private area great for those looking for something a little more exclusive. With the private Vibe area with hot tubs and cabanas for relaxing. The exclusive Haven Lounge & Courtyard located at the top of the ship with private pool, hot tubs, sauna and fitness area.

We then popped into the Mandara Spa. My only regret is that I wasn’t on board long enough to treat myself to a massage!! I did get the chance to chill out on the hot bed with fantastic sea views.

Next stop the kid’s area. Now this is somewhere I have never really taken any notice of. Not this time with an 18 month old little boy I know how important kid’s facilities are and a happy child means happy parents! Kids are catered for from 3 years. Most sessions are complimentary however some do have a small charge including the late night fun zone from 10.30pm until 1.30am. Kids will never be bored with so many facilities to keep them entertained.

After seeing all that I have mentioned it was time to give our feet a rest and pop to the bar for a quick drink before getting ready for the nights entertainment.

You need to keep an eye on my blog and I will let you know what happens on the NCL Breakaway when the sun sets!!
