Fort Lauderdale or Miami

I recently cruised out of Fort Lauderdale on our Caribbean cruise. I chose to stay in Fort Lauderdale as I have been to Miami a few years ago I wanted somewhere a bit more child friendly as Charlie was coming with us.

I loved Fort Lauderdale even more than Miami. It was great for our 3 night stay before embarking Celebrity Constellation. We stayed in the Marriott Harbour Beach. Right on the front and a short stroll along the beach promenade to a big choice or bars, shops and restaurants.

On our first day we decided to head into the main shopping street – Las Olas Boulevard, lots of botique shops and coffee houses. We stopped of somewhere that didnt look much from the outside!! The Floridian it was so busy with locals we though we should give it a go and we were impressed. The service was a little slow but we didnt mind, weather was great and we enjoyed people watching. It was Thanksgiving too and the staff were under pressure to get orders out and tables cleared but we never felt rushed. We all had traditional American bunch, buttermilk panckaes, waffles, Corned beef hash with Florida Oranges juice and a chocolate milkshake for Charlie! This set us up for the rest of the day.

From here we carried onto Las Olas Boulevard, we then stumbled upon the Riverwalk, a lovely area to stroll and take in the scenery and local wildlife. The Iguanas were huge!

In the evenings we headed along the Beach Boulevard for dinner, we went to Bubba Gumps for a bucket of shrimps! One of our favourite places to visit when we are in Florida.

The weather whilst we were there although hot it was very windy and you couldn’t really enjoy time on the beach as you were sandblasted! We didnt go for the beach as were were about to embark on a Caribbean cruise.

I was speaking to a good customer of mine just a few days ago about Miami as that is where he decided to stay after cruising from Fort Lauderdale. They had a great time but found prices for eating out very expensive almost double the price you would pay here for a decent meal. As a comparison we found Fort Lauderdale cheaper than here. It was also so close to the cruise terminal a taxi from the hotel only cost around $20. If I was cruising again from Miami or Fort Lauderdale I would 100% stay in Fort Lauderdale.
