Big Ships BANNED from Venice

I have been having a read of the latest news today and something that seems to be dominating the headlines is that Venice from next year will ban large cruise ships.

So what does this really mean?

I have had a quick look at June 2014 just for an idea of what ships may need to change itineraries or maybe they will need to increase prices as they will need to offer a tender service. I would imagine this would cost more?

My first thought was NCL Jade, I have been on her and know she is back to Venice every week throughout the summer. She may be ok as she is just 93,558 Ton. What about some of the others? I will not name every ship but here are a few that will be banned due to their size

Celebrity Reflection, MSC Fantasia & Regal Princess all well over 100,000 Ton each.

I am all for this ban and its good to see they want to protect Venice but I also think this could end up being a costly decision?  Could it have an impact on tourism?

What do you think?

I think its pretty good news for the smaller ships. The likes of Azamara, Silversea and Oceania will all be fine to still get in.

Have you already booked for 2014? Maybe your worried the cruise you have picked could be changed?
