Aurora To Become Adult Only

P&O have recently announced that children will no longer be able to sail onboard Aurora.

Aurora entered service in 2000 and is scheduled to have a complete makeover in March 2019. She will then re-enter service in April 2019 as an adult only ship. This comes after P&O sold the Adonia too Azamara which is to become the Azamara Pursuit.

Guest with existing bookings have the option to rebook on one of the remaining child-friendly ships Ventura, Britannia, Azura or Oceana free of charge or cancel and receive a future cruise credit worth 5% of the value of their original cruise.

I can see the logic and the need for a third adult only ship. However, the Aurora has always been so popular with families that I’m sure the announcement will cause a lot of disappointment. I heard one of my colleagues has a family member who has a wedding booked on board next year so this is going to cause huge problems with children no longer allowed to attend.

It does seem that P&O leave these things a bit late. I’m sure they must have known for some time that Adonia was to be sold and it was only a few months before that it was announced. This disrupted the annual 35 nights Caribbean cruise in January which was cut short. This meant instead of sailing back to Southampton, guest’s had to fly back instead. This was ok for some, however, people who are unable to fly had no other option than to cancel.
