9 days of Sunshine, Beach and disaster

Well, I have just returned from a lovely part of the country down in Cornwall where we spent every day on the beach with gorgeous weather. You may have read on my blogs in the past we are not always lucky with holidays in the UK. When I started this job I decided to get a Dog and then we wanted to be able to take the dog on holiday with us as he doesn’t like us leaving him so we decided to buy a caravan. We travel with our best friends and we have had some great times so far, usually the laughs or on us! We just seem to attract problems !!

We went to Devon 2 years ago and an electric part went on my car the night before having no lights on the back of the caravan, my husband and his best friend decided to make a panel that I could sit and control the lights all the way to Devon till we could get the part replaced. (as both are gadget men ) This was my job all the way there.

Then we went not to far from home to Kendal about 15 months ago once we arrived the wheel fell off my caravan !!

We then upgraded the caravan and have had a couple of uneventful little trips.
Travelling down to Cornwall I felt fairly relaxed no where near as nervous as I usually feel I put this down to having a newer car and upgrading our caravan last year

What could possibly go wrong?

Well we were making good progress only about 50 minutes away from our final destination when we got a message on the dashboard and the car just cut out !! We were on a dual carriage way going up a hill on a really busy road this is my kind of actual nightmare. We called for the Rac but let’s face it the first Saturday of school holidays, busiest day to travel in the Uk we knew we had a wait.

We had the lane closed by the Highway maintenance had police escort and my son myself and dog were taken to safety whilst they removed the car and caravan from the road. Several hours later our friends came back to collect me and the caravan whilst my husband waited with the car.

We do have the most amazing best friends !!!

We tried to get on with the holiday and make the most of the holiday whilst our car was in the garage being told it seems something and nothing. Again our friends to the rescue ferried us around it was a military operation getting 4 adults 3 children and 2 dogs to the beach, with 4 surfboards and all the baggage we took with us ….

Then the news came that we hadn’t wanted to hear about the car it was BIG and the garage wasn’t prepared to take on the Job and the price tag is huge. At this point, I just wanted to come home but we decided to stay and make the most of the weather and time with our friends.
We booked RAC to bring us home and they had plenty of notice to set up our rescue.

I can honestly say I have never had a day like Monday we were ready to leave first thing as instructed but then proceeded to wait for 3 hours then only taken an hour down the road and so the day continued. We are very patient people but being dumped at various service stations waiting for hours on end and not actually being informed who was collecting us was really trying. I can honestly say it was one of the worst days of my life we ended up arriving home at 0500 in the morning the following day. I could carry on telling you the events of the day as it was like a scene off ‘you have been framed ‘ and we really expected somebody to jump out and tell us this at any minute. My car is in our local garage now with a friend of ours so praying we get some good news on this but right now I’m absolutely traumatised about the journey home and its left me feeling like I never want to go away again !!!
Thank god for our friends, We have promised them we are taking them on their first cruise next year it will be us looking after them for a change.

Does anyone else have as much bad luck as us?

Should we give it all up and not go again?
