Amazing time on Breakaway

On Monday of this week I was lucky enough to be selected to spend a night on the new NCL ship Breakaway in Southampton before she headed off to New York on her maiden voyage. I was really excited as I have been on NCL Epic before and couldn’t wait to see how they compare. As with Epic I was not disappointed she definitely has the wow factor.

I had an outside cabin with a picture window which was a good size and I think is an added bonus to this ship as Epic only has inside cabins and balconies. Ideal for someone who doesn’t want to go to the expense of a balcony but still likes a bit of natural light. Whilst walking around the ship I also had the chance to have a look at the studios for the single traveller. These are quite small but perfect for someone traveling solo and with their own lounge an ideal place to meet new friends.

With 3 main restaurants, O’Sheehan’s Pub and the the Garden Cafe Buffet you don’t have to dine in the same place every night and this is all included in the price. If you want to do something a little different then there are other dining options to choose from also with  a small cover charge. These give you a chance to dine around the world with Teppanyaki, La Cucina, Moderno Churrascaria to mention a few. As there were quite a lot of us from cruise.co.uk onboard we all split up into smaller groups in the evening so that we could all try a different dining experience. Myself and 4 of my colleagues chose to dine in Cagney’s steak house where the steak was to die for, cooked to our liking and none of us were disappointed.

The outside areas had plenty of space for sunbathing and definitely not a shortage of sunbeds. Also available on deck were hammocks if you fancy rocking yourself to sleep in the sunshine!

The aqua park also is a great area for adults and kids alike with waterslides, pools and play areas for everyone. The slides are definitely not for the faint hearted though! Indoor the children’s club in on 2 levels and probably one of the biggest kids clubs I have seen at sea. The teens also have their own area “Entourage” so everyone is catered for.

Entertainment onboard also had something to suit everyone with Fat Cats Jazz Club, Headliners featuring the duelling piano’s (one of my favourite places when I was on Epic) H2O an outside area at the aft of the ship where there is an outside disco and bands also play. The theatre onboard featured Rock of Ages but unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to see this but I’m sure I will get the chance in the future as I am definitely planning a holiday on this ship. Also I didn’t get the chance to experience the night club BLISS as after a very long but enjoyable day it was off to bed for me!
