Abbi's ABC Of Cruising

Viking, the world’s largest river cruise company.

River cruising is growing fast and when you look at just what’s on offer from the river cruise companies you can see why. The River cruise ships are so much smaller than ocean cruises with  the average ship carrying around 200 passengers, and compared to the thousands of passengers on some of the huge cruise ships I think this is a welcome change.

As the ships as so much smaller they can get into the smaller ports and dock right in the heart of the cities. Perfect for sight seeing and no long transfers from port into the place you are visiting.  It’s such a relaxing way to cruise and one of the best ways of getting out there and really exploring. Your river cruise ship is almost a boutique hotel that travels with you.

I was chatting to a regular customer of mine just the other day and after many years of ocean cruising  he was contemplating the idea of a river cruise. His main reservation was the initial cost of the cruise he was booking, and I think in comparison to the many ocean cruises he had taken the price seemed much higher. He of course is not alone with this line of thought, but as we chatted about just what was actually included in his river cruise it didn’t seem so high at all.

The river cruise he had chosen was with Viking, one of the more well known companies out there, in fact they are the world’s  largest river cruise company. At the end of 2014 they had a huge 52 ships on the rivers around the world!  Their latest ships the Viking  Longships in 2012 are stunning , I would love to experience one of these ships.

So just what is included in the cost of your cruise with Viking, take a look and you maybe as surprised as my customer!

Unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner are included. Also included is complimentary tea and coffee.

There is a daily shore excursion in every port included,  and if you think your average shore excursion would cost maybe £30-£50 per person for a half day tour!

Free Wifi in your cabin and on board which is a huge positive and something most of the ocean cruise lines charge for and it’s not cheap!

Regional flights from local airports with no supplement, you can choose from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow at no extra charge.

All meals on board and the food is fantastic especially when you get to try to the regional dishes with all fresh ingredients.

Beautiful accommodation and did you know that all cabins are outside cabins on board. There are various grades to choose from including french balcony cabins and suites.

So as you can see with so much more included in your river cruise actually they are great value for money.

If you would like to know more about Viking river cruises do get in touch I would as always love to hear from you.
