Britannia… does she have the WOW factor…..take a look at my first impressions!

On Sunday  I was lucky  enough to be invited on board P&O’s brand new ship Britannia, of course I was very excited, it’s always so special to be involved it this type of event. The launch of a new ship is one we all want to be part of in the cruise industry and to be one of the first to be able see and experience all she has to offer, to be involved in a little part of history is a complete honour and I loved every minute of it….the only down side was I had to leave the next morning as I could quite easily have stayed on board for the week!

Expectations surrounding Britannia have been high, P&O wanted to make a statement with this huge cruise ship built for the British cruise market. I like everyone else had seen all the images of the ship and the interior and they were of course very impressive,  I was keen to get on board and see if Britannia really did measure up. I can say hand on heart she certainly did, more than that,  I was blown away!

Atrium

Britannia is stylish, opulent, contemporary, elegant, luxurious…I could go on…she is a truly stunning ship  and I fell in love with her the moment I stepped on board. Britannia as you know is a huge ship, no less than 141, 000 tons, but somehow she had the feeling of being smaller. I think the ship has been so well designed that the public areas feel almost like you are inside a beautiful hotel, each area has it’s own ambiance and the ship has a calming and really relaxing atmosphere.

One of the most impressive areas on board is the atrium which over 3 decks has the Starburst centre piece, even more amazing in real life than on the photos I found myself mesmerised with the lights, the colour , the sheer size of the sculpture. Starburst I’m sure will wow everyone who has the pleasure to sail on board Britannia, in fact even one of the architects who was on board with us was stood staring up, admiring his work and in his words he said he had to keep pinching himself to tell himself it was all real! He was so proud, so over whelmed, taking in the ship he had a part in designing and turning those very first plans written down on paper into reality, into a dream.

Take a look at some of my favourite photos and keep an eye out for my next blog with a more detailed look at the ship.
