Ida & Neil Down - Answered a Question by Booth (04 Feb 08 21:30)

No, but what you should take out is Holiday Insurance. If this is a one-off holiday then just for this trip but if you intend to go again or even book again within a year then look at the annual one. Most cruise lines insist that you put down on the booking form the company and number of your insurance policy and it is extremely unwise to go without one or to pretend to have one. You do not have to use the cruise lines insurance although they would like you to because the premium is invariably higher that the high street ones........Nei.

Whilst Mr Down is perfectly correct in his comments, specialist Cruise Insurance will give you wider cover than that of a standard holiday policy. Cruise Insurnace will offer increased limits on baggage, high risk items (jewellery) and depending on the cover you purchase some will offer compensation for ports that are missed. Regards M Callaga.

Depending on which cruise your going on and what activities you're intending to do you may need slightly different insurance. For example if you are going on a ship which you can hire Jetskies on or if your are going to be doing any water sports or adenturious excursions you will need to state this to your insurer as should the worse happen you may not be covered.

Thanks for your answers, it seems we should be ok wjth regular travel insurance as I certainly wont be doing any dangerous water sports and unless my wife is holding out on me we havent got any over expensive jewellery. We are returning from New York on the QM2 in October for our 40th wedding aniversary and it will be our first cruise. Best wishes Gerry Boot.
