We did this trip in April this year (07)on Serenade and had a wonderful time. It's certainly worth getting up early in the morning to 'bag a good viewing space' for the 1st locks (Gatun) and also to be up on the top deck as you go under the Golden Gate Bridge. Take clothes for three formal nights! Only (slight negative comments) - we felt some of the excursions were 'filler-ins rather than highlights (although driving a 4x4 at Cabo San Lucas was a definite high)and the ship did 'rock'n'roll rather on the way from Cabo to San Francisco. San Francisco highlights tour was good - when we eventually managed to disembark which was the most chaotic, disorganised event of all cruises we have ever been on! Oh! and take a jumper for San F - all the fleece jackets in the ship store sold out as it got pretty chilly. ENJOY - we did.

I am frequently being asked if there is a kettle in the cabin and it is only really the British C...

I wish I had a pound for every time I have been asked this question. I could have sailed around the world in Luxury! Aah yes! but would I choose Port or Starboard for my cabin? Or left side versus the right side of the ship?I suppose it depends on where you’re headed. I know that quite a few seasoned cruisers swear by the Starboard side. Although it really depends on what type of cruise you are on.For instance, if you are sailing in one direction, North or West generally people pr...

My NON cruise holiday this Easter.

By Haydn Jones

Haydn Jones's blog

I’ve just come back from a family Easter holiday to Spain, surprisingly not on a cruise this time. My children are of the age where we have to go away during school holidays. We decided on Benalmadena, Spain as we have been before , its not too far, and the boys love it there. The weather was absolutely glorious, we were so lucky this time of year to have 10 days of boiling sunshine. Benalmdena is a town on southern Spain’s Costa del Sol, known for its beaches and the modern Pue...
