Not a fan of MSC
MSC  / MSC Preziosa /

We have sailed with many of the cruise lines but thought we would try MSC Prezioza which was sailing from Venice. The embarkation procedure is organised chaos, it took hours to board. The drinks package is worth it, try the Allegresimo, 23 euros+15%, per...  Read More >>

We sailed on Ventura to the Canaries in 2008. Our last port of call was Vigo so we went and bought the allowance of 16 sleeves each. Later on in the afternoon there was leaflets at the reception desk stating that as this was a Canaries cruise the allowance was 1 box of 200 each regardless that we had stopped off at Vigo on the way home. I thought this was very wrong but it was their policy. We carried them off the ship and had no problem. Maybe some people were not as lucky as us. Apparantley the leaflets had been at reception since the start of the cruise as other passengers informed us.

Duty paid from any EU port then as many as would like as long as you can prove they are for your own consumption. Any bought on the ship or from non EU countries especially the Canaries you are only allowed to bring 200 for each person over 18

As Peter's answer........... EU law actually says "a reasonable quantity" for personal use by your household or as gifts. ....... no-one's gonna believe you're going to give away more than, say, 200 cigs. If you say you're going to give them to friends at cost-price, they'll be seized & you're in deep doo-doos. .......... UK Customs interpret "a reasonable quantity" as 3200 cigs (16 sleeves) plus 3kg of tobacco per person aged 18+, in theory they shouldn't quiz you if you have that quantity - if you bring back more you'd need to justify your purchases as a heavy-smoking household, expect to be treated as more of a criminal than a gun-runner or people-smuggler. .................. packs will have spanish duty-paid labels across the opening, but get receipts as well. .............. Spain has the cheapest EU cigs in western Europe, you can only buy them in Tabacs, prices of cigs/baccy are are controlled, so same price anywhere, no discount for quantity but you could suggest some freebie lighters or a bottle. Usually plenty of UK brands in stock at tabacs near the ports. ........... duty-frees from the ship or Canaries or Gib you can only bring back 200 cigs OR 250g baccy. ............ a couple can save about £800 over UK shop prices by buying 3200 each from Spain, so best not to push the boundaries & risk losing the lot. ................
