Hi there, thanks for your comments - i am going on ventura on january 30, having previously been on the oceana four times before, if you have been on ventura i would be really grateful if you could give your honest view on the ventura, because we have also been on royal caribbean and celebrity as well as p&o and rate them all very highly.
I agree that P&O seem to be getting a lot of bad press in recent times, I have not sailed on the "Ventura" so can't comment but I have sailed on all the other ships in the P&O fleet and can only speak as I find as I am sure many reviewers do. P&O has never been the same since it was taken over by "Carnival" standards have dropped somewhat and because of this and various other reasons my Husband and myself have decided not to cruise with them anymore. This is of course personal choice and opinion based on personal experiences.
The bad reviews have come after the problems over Christmas and New Year the reviews prior to this problem on the hole most were very happy with the ship so lets see what reviews come in over the next 3/4 weeks.
It certainally seems some have an axe to grind against Ventura. We went in September. Had a wonderful cabin on B deck. Photos on this site. Yes, there were some loud mouthed people, but we have booked again for this coming september on Ventura because its the Itinerary we want and I will not fly. I have looked through all the cruise lines brochures and could find nothing else to suit us. We really enjoyed our cruise The food was very good in the Baytree and we had wonderful waiters, wonderful cabin steward. No doubt we will get knocked for booking again, but WE enjoyed our cruise. We do not doubt that some had trouble on the xmas cruise and hope that PandO will do their utmost to try and bring back some of the confidence to us more mature regular cruisers. We live in hope!
P&O have targeted a particular market for Ventura and these customers are very happy with their cruises. Some people want to sail on Ventura just to say they have been on the ship (my mother-in-law for one!) even though it is advertised as a 'family ship' and by definition will have a high proportion of children on board whether its school hols or not. People who are not prepared to accept Ventura and her customers as they are should probably choose an other ship. Having said that P&O, like many other companies are cutting costs where they can. And it shows.
