Yes!, we have just come back last weekend, we booked through, booked flights with american airlines direct, booked hotel prior to the cruise direct, (browse the website for the best deals on hotels)you can also book a shuttle from the airport to your hotel, i think we saved around £400 each, no problems, we saw norwegian dawn in nyc port when we embarked, have a nice time.

We took a transatlantic cruise on NCL's Dawn last October. You may be interested to read the following on their "Freestyle Cruising." NCL has been sold by the Norwegians to an Indonesian shipping company, who implemented and heavily promote "Freestyle Cruising." Actually, it is a cost cutting plan that reduces the number of waiters by extending the restaurant operating hours with the expectation that fewer tables can be serviced if the guests arrive over a period of four hours instead of all guest being seated at the same time. NCL's Dream on a recent transatlantic cruise had 1,842 passengers serviced by a staff of only 705. Most cruise ships have a ratio of at least one employee for two passengers. Evidently, at least two hundred staff members had been eliminated by extending the hours of one restaurant and closing or limiting the use of their other restaurant. The fallacy of this plan is that most guests want to eat at approximately the same time anyway, which produces long lines waiting to get into the restaurant at lunch or dinner time. For instance, the evening Theater Show gets over and everyone heads for dinner, or shore excursions return to the ship and the whole group is ready for lunch. Your wait for breakfast, lunch or dinner at a table under the "Freestyle" plan will consistently require you to stand in line from 10 to 45 minutes. Meanwhile, the one small buffet restaurant gets incredibly crowded and then you can't find an available table after going through the buffet line. Do not expect NCL's "Freestyle Cruising" to be for your convenience, unless you don't mind waiting in a long line for a table (even if you are willing to share) at almost every meal. And by the way, there will be no songs, skits or marches through the dining room by your waiters, like you may have enjoyed on other cruise ships.

You are right...don't use NCL Freestyle if it's one of their old "converted ships". he new ships like Sun, Jewel etc. are fine. Dream and Dawn aren't. Check out which is which in the Berlitz Guide.

Absolutely 100% right. We went on Dawn from NY and found the same we wanted to book a table for the same time each evening but were told it would be 6pm or after 9.30pm and subject to a table being available. so we never ate in the main restauarnt as there was always a long queue. We tried another restauarant and had to wait outside on the stairway and when finally seated there were 19 vacant tables but they still had guests waiting out in the stairway!

The "Freestyle Dining" does not work at all. We took a cruise around the Hawaiian islands with NCL and had to queue for meals. You can, of course, pay an extra $20.00 a head and eat in one of their speciality restaurants - BUT NOT WHEN YOU WANT TO - only when they say they have a table vacancy. If you want to do this speciality deal you will have to book your tables in advance - like day 1 - if you want to stand a chance of eating when you wish to eat. Incidentally, you recall we were on a Hawaiian cruise, well second day out they ran out of Pineapple Juice!!! Now that takes some doing !!! If another cruise line went to where we wanted to go then we would take that. NCL like you to exercise your brain in the buffet restaurant - How to get your food to a table? They did not have any trays at all - so you had to go from the food to the table with your fruit juice - then go back to the food for your meal - back to the table where you find that your juice has gone and someone else is sitting there!! We did Bermuda last year with Royal Caribbean out of Norfolk, Virginia and we had no problems. Check out the trays before you book!! In fairness to any Cruise Line - they will never please all the people all of the time.

Yes you can book through Vacations To and will have no worries, we have cruised 68 times and the agency can and will do a great job, Also if you check on their website you will find that most cruises are discounted up to 75 percent. Happy cruising. James .

Traditional or Freestyle ? Whi...

By Camilla Edwards

Carnival`s decision to introduce a new rule of traditional diners on their ships made me think of the whole subject of when, where and with whom do you choose to dine on your cruise. On board Carnival Glory and Carnival Conquest passengers who opt for first or second sitting traditional dining will be turned away from the restaurant if they are more than 30 minutes late for their selected seating. So that means be there on time , and probably queue to get on, or go to the buffet.Dining time s...

A bit like last year when I saw the Manics in...
