Just returned from Baltic cruise on Norwegian Dream. It was really worth every penny. The ship was run like clockwork, we had no complaints at all. The restaurants were good and to avoid queing for evening meal try to eat either side of 7pm to 8pm The french bistro has a small cover charge of about $15 per person but well worth the extra. The food was amazing. Towards the end of our cruise they had a 2 for 1 offer which we took, so it resulted in only paying for one person at $15 us dollars. There is the Sports bar which is buffet style but is more alikened to a cafe but this serves its purpose. The Four Seasons restaurant has a really good buffet style breakfast where you can sit anywhere, on your own or with others, up to you. The Terraces is where you can have breakfast and be waited on which is really nice for a change. Anyway you will see for yourself, just have a good read at the info in your cabin. Dont forget there is room service at no extra charge, so why not have breakfast in bed or other snacks at anytime of the day but give at least 30min notice and breakfast you can leave a menu card on your door the night before and they will phone you just before it arrives. Enough about food and this is what we did for our excursions. We didnt take any NCL excursions we sorted ourselves out which is okay for every port apart from St.Petersburg in Russia. Here we booked our own tour over the internet with a company called Alla Tours, this was excellent and we had our own driver and tour guide for the 2 days and everything ran perfectly. We met up with a Canadian couple who had contacted Alla Tours, like ourselves and she put us in touch with each other to see if we wanted to share a tour and thus bring the price down which worked out about the same price as NCL but was more personal and flexible. Alla will email you a quote of your suggested itinerary and when you book with her you dont pay anything until the final day of your tour and we paid cash in us dollars. If you decide to use her try and get Angelica as your Tour guide, she was brilliant and more than we expected. It was so much easier in a group of 4 people than a coach load of 50 and it was so easy through customs all you had to show was the ticket that Alla emails to you and your passport. We were through in seconds and 10 yards walk and Angelica was there to greet us with our driver Valeerie. Dont hesitate to book with her it was so safe and secure and the best ever experience ever. By the way we tipped the driver and guide at the end of our tour because it was well worth it between us we gave the driver 60 us dollars and Angelica 120 us dollars but its entirely up to you, you wont be disappointed but do try and get Angelica if you do your own tour. Firstly Germany and the kiel canal and what an experience we just stayed in the port of Warnamunde as I used to live in Germany and had been to Berlin several times but the Canadian couple we met up with went and said it was a long day and quite rushed once in Berlin and obviously not a lot of time to spend there.By the way Warnemunde town is a short walk from the ship and is quite quaint if you just want a relaxing day. Next Tallinn, again we did our own thing, got off the ship and walked into the old town of Tallinn which took about 20 minutes. Well worth doing on your own you can avoid the large Tour groups and it costs nothing but the price of a guide book. Helsinki we caught the shuttlebus into the centre and did our own thing, had coffee and cakes and a look around the outdoor market etc but this was as much as we wanted. Stockholm, again we did our own thing and walked to the old town and walked up to the palace to see the changing of the guard, we again used a guide book. Copenhagen, we arrived in the evening and walked into the centre, quite a walk but the Canadian couple booked the cruise on the river and Tivolli gardens, they were very disappointed and wish they had not of waisted their money but did enjoy the river cruise but not Tivolli it was a waste of time they said. I hope the above has been of some use, but everyone has different opinions and likes and dislikes but all I can say is we loved the cruise and the Norwegian Dream okay the boat looks a little bit tired in decor in some parts but it was spotless and hygiene was priority, hand sanitizers at all food stations. We hope you enjoy your cruise as much as we did and remember Norwegian Dream will not be doing the Baltic again after this year infact yours could be one of the last sailings. Enjoy, we have just booked again on Norwegian Dream for December of this year to do the South American cruise, so that says something. By the way the crew are really friendly, mainly indonesian and they work like no other people I have seen. We came back September the 3rd and just thought you could have gone on the September 3rd cruise oops.
