Great week on the Thomson Celebration

Great cruise. Flew from Gatwick. No real problems, although arrived at ship about 45 minutes late. Then getting our room and card organised took about 15 minutes, which, after a long day travelling, seemed an annoying wait. The room itself was good- level 6...  Read More >>

what are the bar prices like on MSC Fantasia and what can I expect regarding dining

Bar prices are quite steep mainly because of the rise in value of the Euro! Expect to pay around £7 for a G & T. The measures tend to be doubles (they certainly are for brandy and this is €5.20 for Vecchia Romana Italian brandy!) and thankfully, unlike most cruiselines, they do NOT add an automatic 15% gratuity! The food is what I would be inclined to call 'international cruise fare' with a leaning towards Italian. When I say a leaning towards Italian, I mean that there is a Pasta/Risotto course at lunch and dinner (and jolly good they are too in my opinion!) and a freshly cooked pasta dish is generally available in the buffet restaurant each day at lunch. Having said that, believe me there is ample on the menu to choose from if you don't like pasta/risotto. Certainly some main course items are described in Italian on the dinner menu (when they are just ask your waiter if you don't know!) If you enjoy beer, wine and cocktails, I too would recommend that you buy the drinks packages. The savings aren't enormous but there is certainly a saving! Should you buy wine in the restaurant, please don't think you have to drink it all at that sitting! Just drink whatever you want and the remains will be produced at the next dinner! I personally found the half ltr. carafe of house wine a good buy at €8. Hey, I just noticed that this question was asked on 9th May!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can this be right?

You might want to pre book drink packages through your travel agent. MSC offer wine, beer & soft drink packages which tend to work out a bit cheaper than on board prices.

We thought that the prices were on a par with london prices. You expect to pay a bit more than usual! But you know you are on holiday! best to buy some packages as it works out cheaper. Food is pretty good. \you caan always find some thing you want at the buffet. Fine dining in the evening is as many courses as you want to order. Its mostly very good with the odd exception. Basic drinks prices can be found by clicking the rather small “sitemap” at top left of this page. Then scroll down to “how much for a drink”. Not comprehensive, not necessarily fully up to date, but useful as a general guide. Remember to add on 15% service if it applies to your cruise-line. ………………Web ferret

Pasta dishes are always excellent on board MSC ships - they make their own on the ships. I've found their bar prices lower than on Celebrity and Princess.

Bar prices are average to high. Cuisine is European/ Mediterranean. I've always found it good except in the Caribbean where they try and please our American friends too much.
