Aldrich - Answered a Question by Richards (30 Dec 07 18:45)

I would not get into any NY taxi and expect a tour off them. Most of the ones I have encountered have only a rudimentary grasp of English.....I would suggest mykindoftownny.com as a good staring place.

I would agree, it would cost you an arm and a leg anyway. Manhattan is easily reached from QM2 docks and with a little bit of forward planning work out what you would most like to see and plan a route….Nei.

An alternative might be to pre-book a limousine ride. I would not suggest hiring one for 4 hours though as this would work out really expensive. We hired one to give us a drive around the main sites for about 90 minutes and it was very good. It dropped us off at a restaurant in greenwich Village and we just grabbed a yellow cab back for the return journey. There are quite a lot of things to do and see that are walking distance form 42nd St/Broadway, so laternatively just get a cab from the airport to there and have a wander about before getting a cab back. There are several hop on hop off bus routes in NY and whilst you would not have time to get on and off, you could have time to do one loop just to give you an impression of the cit.

Regretfully I must agree with Aldrich. New York taxis bear no resemblance to London ones. Usually the drivers have no knowledge of the city. Rarely, when they can speak English, they push rudeness to the extreme. Even a chauffeur car booked for me by BA Concorde had a driver who refused to communicate. The best of luck.

Winstanley - Answered a Question by Richards (08 Jan 08 07:29)

Hi Have only just seen your question. Note that you are in Bebington - presume this is Wirral, u.k. We live in Great Sutton and are on the same cruise as you. We are about to book a limousine for the journey from ship to airport. Our flight isn't until 6pm so we are going to have rather a long wait at the airport. Wonder if you have any ideas about sharing etc. If you would like to contact us direct our email address is fotograffs@aol.com and we are leaving here early Thursday morning. We are in Cabin 6266 on board if you would like to contact us there. Sand.

Royal Princess

By Emily Watts

Last week I was lucky enough to experience Royal Princess which was also my first time on a Princess ship. It was everything I expected and more. as soon as we got on board I was impressed with the decor and the grandness, it really is a beautiful ship. Our cabin was located on Baja deck B215 which had a balcony and for two sharing it is very spacious. Princess prides themselves on the beds and it was probably one of the most comfortable ones I have ever slept on. After embarkation, we...

How Fred Olsen compares

By Charlene Thackeray

Charlene Thackeray's blog

We are recently back from our first Fred Olsen cruise.Whilst this is the smallest ship we have been on as a family there were lots of great things and a few not so great things for us. We knew there would not be much for Charlie on board however he had a great time with all his new friends from the Entertainments team. I can honestly say the entertainment team were really friendly and put on some great shows. I loved how the stage rose in the Neptune lounge making it a great area for lots of ...

Two nights on Indy..

By Alison Ranaldi

Alison Ranaldi's blog

Last week I spent two nights on the newly revamped Independence of the Seas.We sailed from Southampton in glorious sunshine to Le Havre and back. This was my third time on board this ever-popular ship and I was keen to see the changes to her after a big refit. We had a balcony cabin on deck 9 which had everything we needed for a comfortable break. I’m not generally a fan of mini-cruises. They offer an excellent way for someone like myself to see the ships but I do not think they are a g...
