18% tip on all drinks. No you cannot bring on a bottle of scotch, but you can bring on 2 bottles of wine at the start of your cruise.
Wine averages $8/glass + 18% and mixed drinks averages $9 to $10/glass + 18%. Bottles of wine averages about $40 but rises sharply.
Celebrity, in their wisdom, have decided that it is going to be a top class ship, which indeed it is, but along with this notion they have comes the need to inflate certain things probably beyond reason. For instance instead of Room Attendants you now have Butlers, a change in name only, there are more pillows in your cabin then you could ever use and these take up too much space when the cabin is not overly large and, yes, the gratuity added to your drinks bill is 18% which is ridiculously large. Nevertheless they are great ships and provide a similar service to Silversea particularly with the cut-backs that Silversea has made but note I say only “similar”. I have booked another two cruises because we like the style and the service so much. Wine by the glass was expensive between $8 and $11 for a reasonable size but there were bottles on the wine list that were $22/35 and very palatable at that. Can't tell you the price of single malts or blends because I can't remember. You are allowed to take aboard a bottle of wine each for cabin consumption. I think that you will find that the standard is as you would expect and you won't be let down particularly with the food in the speciality restaurants where you are allowed two free sessions and three is you are an Elite Celebrity member or have a suite.
Deck noise I don't know about mainly because I try to avoid the deck below the Pool Deck for this reason, I do know that the lads are busy up their from early morning putting on fresh white covers on the chairs and obviously straightening them. Maybe some else will be more specific on that point. My advice, for what it's worth, go and try it you won't be totally dismayed and you may, as we do, love them. regards Neil
Just to clarify - Guests who have booked a stateroom will receive two nights of complimentary specialty dining, and guests staying in a suite (or are Elite) will receive three nights of complimentary specialty dining. Additional reservations in either of the 2 speciality restaurants will be accommodated on a space-available basis and on these occasions there is a suggested $5 gratuity to pay. I hope to be on her this Autumn - when are you going Neil???
Hello "Albert" Explorer OS this autumn, January on Journey and May on Quest, maybe one day hey.. regards Neil.
Thank you for all your encouraging comments. We are doing the Best of Italy in September on Quest. Are we told when we are booked into the speciality restaurants or do we have to book when we board? Did you prefer one of the speciality restaurants over the other? How likely is it that one can rebook one of them again if liked? Do you pack your bottles of wine to take on board? Is there a decent sized fridge for them? Thanks again
The speciality restaurants are booked on the ship and you will have two free visits during your cruise unless you hold "Elite" status with the Celebrity's Captain's Club when you will be offered a visit to the restaurants on the night you embark. You can choose for yourself the time and which restaurant you want to visit but the best times and some evenings are booked first and early. We had three visits and preferred Prime C but it is very much a matter of personal choice and we rebooked Prime C later in the cruise for a second time and it was not difficult just as you could visit Aqualina twice if you so wished. I and a friend went out into Civitavecchia via the free shuttle and found a grocers off to the left about 400 yards down the main promenade. We made a very good choice of Chianti there and I will be revisiting that shop in early summer to reacquaint myself with that lovely beverage. The fridge is a smallish one but if you want more space in it just ask you "Butler” to make room in it for you. . Good choice. …. Neil.
