Definitely the Briksdaal Glacier trip from Olden. Also Flaam Railway. If you get up earlier enough to go to the station, about five minutes away if docked you can do this yourself, saving money. If not bothered, then go on shore excursion. Also recommend Norway in a Nutshell tour.

Ball - Buckinghamshire May 2008. We have just returned from a cruise with Transocean tours 6 day to Fjords. Regarding excursions we were unsuccessful booking excursions with the cruise ship and had to do our own thing. The Flam railway experience is a must and very easy for anyone to do on their own. The train is within 100 yds of the dock and as cruise lines are only allowed to book up to 250 places, the rest is for individual tourists. There are many timings each day so we had no trouble booking independently. Cost £31.50 approx. return per adult. This was this May - could be more difficult in peak season but I expect they put more carriages on. With regard to Bergen, definitely do this yourself - again no trouble getting on the funicular (concessions for oaps) and you would be walking around the harbour area anyway on an excursion so - do it yourself. We had a great cruise on the Marco Polo. Ship takes around 800 passengers. Transocean has only in the last month taken this over from NCL. All the crew worked realky hard to make oiur cruise successfull and it was. A few teething problems with dining/service times etc. but I am sure they will sort it out pretty quickly.

My wife and I are going on this same cruise. We have been to Norway before and recommend the following. All excursions offered by cruise companies are expensive. Bergan Walk it on your own there is plenty to see within the town. I will be heading to the Theta museum in the Bryggen (1940/42 resistance radio centre). If you like music then you should take the excursion to Grieg's house at Troldhaugen, you might be able to do this on a local bus but I have not been able to find any Bergen bus maps on the internet. On three previous trips to Bergen the cloud base has been so low that the Floibanen has been closed. Don't book a trip you can do it on your own if the weather is OK. Stavanger Again there is plenty to see walking round on you own. The Sardine museum is unusual and is quite close to the usual cruise beth. Flaam Flaam railway is a must. Olden If you have never been to Norway before the trip to Geirangerfjord will be good. Many cruise ships sail this fjord as part of their itinary.

It`s Time To Grab A Bargain

By Camilla Edwards

February has arrived and, apparently, it is going to be the coldest on record. Traditionally this is the time of year when holiday and cruise companies hope we are thinking of warmer days, and planning holidays.Looks like there are going to be some bargains around, but not necessarily for people who leave booking until the last minute. Last week I booked a lovely cruise on P&O Oceana for some clients of mine which we both thought was a really good deal.Oceana is one of P&PO`s older s...
