Hi, After questioning the jeans can I try and give some positive advice on this as I believe as usual Ida is making things rather convuluted and unhelpful. During the day simply wear slacks and a shirt and jumper ie what one would call smart casual. For lunch one might want to slip on a jacket but a tie is not necessary. Apart from that just enjoy yourselves as it is a fabulous cruise with lots to see and do aboard the ship and it isn't stuffy. For normal evenings wear either sports coat and slacks with a tie or a lounge suit and tie and for formal nights either a dj or a lounge suit and tie. Much the same concept for the ladies. I do hope you have a really great time.

I read the answers given to you in a similar question earlier and I can understand that you might feel perplexed. May I just say that on a transatlantic there are no excursions so firstly you must wear what you feel comfortable wearing. Secondly you will, unless you're a big book reader or sleepe,r be mixing and joining in activities with others many of whom will be dressed reasonably and some OTT and some messily, choose what you feel will not be stared at and that others will feel at home with, that way you can join in anything from dancing to deck quoits. The Atlantic can be cold in April so take something warm and something that will not blow up around your ears when you are on deck. Take jeans by all means but don't wear them on the first day or in fact be the first to wear jeans but wait until several others make the first move, Is that bowing and scraping , no, it's being sensible. But the third thing is to enjoy the experience of doing something that all cruisers should aspire to.... a Trans Atlantic Cruise. Best Wishes Ida.

In simple terms you can wear jeans during the day on all Cunard ships and I have seen people look smarter in jeans than they do in baggy chinos, pedal-pushers or designer deck wear. On QE2 this summer 2 guests in Grill class accommodation almost always wore jeans during the day and looked very elegant too. There are far too many suppositions that people will be frowned upon for what they choose to wear. Only the most pernicious of critics will be looking that closely anyway.

Now there are Jeans AND there are 'jeans '! .. My bet is that the two people who were travelling in the grills wore some sort of Designer Jeans ! .. it's all a matter of common sense.. when we say' Jeans' we are not talking about ' baggy low slung' or ripped things.. if you got these .. then leave them at home... I spend half my life at home at the week end in jeans the last thing I want to wear after paying several thound pounds to travel QM2 is put on my jeans.. No it's a nice pair of chinos and deck shoes for me during the day ! enjoy QM2 ,Steve....
