Neil & Ida Down - Answered a Question by Ellaway (05 Feb 09 19:11)

My suggestion for the last day is either to hire a large car and go off for the day to see the sites or a mall or whatever, pick it up near the docks and drop it off at the Airport. Or do as Ida and I did in January and that is get a taxi (or two) to either the Hilton Airport Hotel or the Sofitel Airport Hotel. Hand all your luggage over to the concierge who will store it for you. Then spend the day around the pool, have a beer or a snack and generally chill out. When it comes time to go change in the loos into your travelling togs and catch the free hotel shuttle to Miami Airport and check in. ..... Neil.

Neil sounds good to me but did you use this hotel before your cruise and then book in to use the hotel facilities for one day? Was there a charge for using the hotel? If there was no charge was the hotel happy with you using there facilities.

No our cruise started in Los Angeles and ended in Miami so we didn't have a stay prior to the cruise. American hotels are much more accustomed to this kind of arrangement, when you get there you can ask about the price of a "day room" but don't do it before because the price is normally much too high wait until you arrive and then they know how many spare rooms they have, with six of you it could be worth it, we didn't and were very happy. Have a look at both hotels on the net, we've used both in the past but prefer the Hilton. There is no charge to store cases but a 5/10 dollar tip is always appreciated and a small bung for the shuttle driver is expected too. Having seen most of what we want in Miami we find this a very relaxing way to await our flight home. The best way to arrange a hotel to stay at is to look at hotels on the net and then check them out with several of the providers to see what customers have said about them and of course if you like them you can always go there after the cruise instead of my suggestions. As Del-boy would say."The worlds your Lobster". .....Neil.

Thanks for that advice, we are booked into Hotel Riu on Miami beach the night before our cruise, its about eleven miles from the airport, maybe we could arrange something with for our return journey. Its our first time for a cruise and in America so we are a bit nervous. thanks again!!!!!!
