I think this refusal to refund is outrageaous. I was caught, having made a 'phone booking with RCI on a Costa Cruise which I then had to cancel within 24 hours. This is nothing more than downright robbery and there SHOULD be some law against Cruise Companies being able to do this. I will NEVER book with Costa again
How sad about your friend.
The refund of deposit is unfortunately likely to be right. You may be able to claim on your holiday insurance but you'll still have an excess to pay here too.
It is usual policy of cruise companies that the deposits are non refundable. It is in the T&Cs. I suggest that your T/A should have advised you of this, and suggested that you either do a name change and take the same cruise or that you swap to another cruise at a later date. Your T/A should not have told you of this fact after you had cancelled.
Thank you for those answers to my query, though it still does not make it right for P&O or any other cruise company to keep deposits. After all, I cannot be the only one to whom this has happened. With a year to go they are going to sell our places without any problems. Patricia Vandenplas.
First I am sorry you have lost a dear friend. We thought P&O was a good company untill yesterday when letters arrived cancelling our friends cruise .A number of us had booked E931/E932 11th dec 09 and 25th dec 09 some for a month others 2 weeks,This would be for 2 couples to celebrate a 40th anniversary and another to renew wedding vows (the package paid for 2 months ago).P & O HAVE CANCELLED THE 2 WEEK CRUISES TO MAKE A MONTH LONG CRUISE .Not everyone can take a month from work or other commitments. ........P & O ARE REFUNDING DEPOSITS PAID..FOR THE CANCELLED 2 WEEK CRUISE.
as for the rest of us on ship for the month..WE WOULD NOT HAVE BOOKED ONLY FOR THESE CELEBRATIONS.
AND YOU MAY HAVE GUESSED IF WE CANCELL ........NO REFUND.......THINK SERIOUSLY ABOUT BOOKING P&O.
