Enjoying The Great British Summer

Tomorrow I will be back at my desk after a weeks break in my favourite part of the country – Norfolk. Since Rowan ( my beloved Lurcher ) arrived on the scene almost two and a half years ago my travelling has been somewhat curtailed! Lots of my holidays now revolve round him as he really is such a darling dog.

The weather in the third week of June was glorious and you can imagine that I was praying it would last until the beginning of July. My colleague Tamir asked me, just before I went on holiday, what are you going to do if it rains !  I said get wet !!! How prophetic was that ! Yes it rained, and rained , and rained some more but we still had a lovely time.

This was a girly week away as there were four of us plus Rowan. We had an upside down house, with four bedrooms and bathrooms, in the lovely village of Thornham right next door to one of the local pubs. How convenient was that ! A lot of the houses along the North Norfolk coast are upside down to take advantage of the beautiful views over the saltmarshes. From our lounge balcony we saw white owls hunting their prey, many different kinds of birds and wildlife, even a Muntjac which Rowan would have loved to chase.

Holidays for me are all about doing things that you don`t do much of at home. We managed a day lazing in the sun before the rain came. We walked on the beach and in the sand dunes of Old Hunstanton Beach. We went shopping to the lovely town of Holt and beautiful Burnham Market, where there is also an exhibition of Nelson who was born close by in Burnham Thorpe.

We sat overlooking Brancaster Staithe having a late lunch and ate Fish & Chips from Eric`s, possibly the best I`ve ever tasted. We even dined in a Yurt at Shucks Drove Orchard.

A lovely relaxing week and now its back to reality.
