WINTER WONDER LANDS AWAIT

There can be few things better in life than taking a cruise during the cold winter months, but you might believe it is not affordable. Well, think again because you might just find it costs even less to be on a cruise than it is to be at home in the UK.

My many clients have left the UK to spend long periods during winter in hotter climates for the past 30 years, and now there’s even more choice than ever.Every cruise line I work with send their ships to sunnier and warmer climates between November and mid April. Well, actually there are a few exceptions, as you will see.

The number one destination is, and probably always will be, the Caribbean. This is really for people wanting a one to two week cruise. In my experience, most people don’t head there, if they are looking for longer trips unless they are taking a no fly cruise to the Caribbean, which would probably necessitate about a five week trip.People wanting alternatives to the Caribbean often head for South America and these have become very sought after, particularly by more experienced and discerning travellers.

Other sought after destinations for winter cruising are South Africa, the Indian Ocean, the Far East, Australasia and the South Pacific. There are many other fascinating choices for winter cruising too.

Full world cruises are many and varied, and cruise lines will offer not just the complete cruise which could keep you away for as long as six months, but many enticing sectors for those who just cannot manage to be away for so long. Most world cruises start early January, but there are some exceptions.

So, where would the exception be to warm climates. Of course, Antarctica is also a place that has become big business, and although not a warm destination, it’s certainly on the wish list of the more adventurous traveller.wineglass.mediumI have already touched upon Australia and many Brits have family connections in Australia and New Zealand and so these are the most popular “final” destination of many cruisers. It’s a great way to travel during the winter, and you’ll see much of the world at the same time. Cruise lines vary their routes and ports of call when sending their ships to Australasia, and are continually adding new and interesting overnight port stops.deckOnly recently I booked clients one way UK to Australia, where they will spend a long period of time with family, before taking another cruise ship homeward bound. I calculated that the combined cruises are for 117 nights and that is costing less than £70 a night. Accommodation, all meals, entertainment, and of course, seeing the world, and you can quickly see why so many people you know take these long trips during winter.
