Carry on Caravanning…

Last week i had a week off work, so instead of wasting the week at home, me and my family decided that we should go away for a few days. Normally our holidays are abroad, whether it be a cruise, a city break of a beach break but his time we decided to take a caravanning holiday instead.

I was a little apprehensive as to whether we would enjoy it or not as it’s not our usual thing, however we had such a good time! My daughter Lucie who is two and a half really enjoyed it. We went to a place called Haggerston Castle which is just outside of Berwick upon Tweed which is town in Northumberland just below the Scottish border, it’s about one hour and a half’s drive from us in Durham, so not too far.

We set off on the Monday morning and arrived just after lunch, we could not check in straight away so decided to leave the car and have a wonder around to explore the park, to my surprise the park and grounds it’s self is a lot bigger than i expected, there is a lovely lake with ducks and swans (which Lucie loved to go and see each day) the lake also had pedalos you could hire. There was various children’s play areas dotted around with zip lines, swings, slides etc, stables with pony rides for the children, mini golf, bike hire, trampolines plus other stuff too.

Inside the main complex, there was a big area with arcades and slot machines (which my partner Johnathan especially enjoyed, trying to beat his score on them!), there was an indoor pool area with a little slide for the children, there was a club house which offered entertainment in the evening, this was Lucie’s favorite part going there in the evening and dancing with the other little children.

When we got to our caravan again i was extremely surprised, it was lovely and clean and bigger than i expected, with two bedroom’s, a bathroom with shower, a living area with TV and big comfy sofas, then a full kitchen with all standard kitchen appliances so good if you wanted to cook your own meal, i must add i had planned on cooking some meals, but this didn’t happen as we choose to eat out most of the time, onsite there was a lovely restaurant called Mash and Barrel, a Burger King, Papa John’s pizza and also a Fish and chip shop, then a mini market where you could buy fresh sandwiches and all other essential items.

All in all we had a great time and we would definitely consider doing it again as a second holiday. I am now looking forward to our next holiday later in the year to Jamaica where will get some sunshine too!
