Virgin set to Set Sail.

Virgin’s first cruise ship has recently floated out and in a similar theme to the Virgin colour scheme she has been named Scarlet Lady.

We still have a little while to wait before we can set sail with her, she is due to do her maiden voyage from Miami in 2020.

At the moment 2020 is looking like an exciting year for new ships with P&Os Iona and Celebrity’s Apex hitting the waters in Southampton.

Virgin has said that this ship will be an adult-only ship. There are also 2 additional ships announced by Virgin set to be released in 2021 and 2022, these will also be adult only.

This has surprised me as Virgin do some great family holidays and built themselves on the family holidays to Disney and Universal, but, the Virgin enterprise very rarely make mistakes and perhaps there is a market from Miami for an adult only ship, or 3.

It seems that Virgin will have quite a focus on “wellness” on their ships. This is all well and good as long as there are plenty of alternatives for people who aren’t as interested in this type of thing. Many people want to let their hair down whilst on holiday and are not interested in “wellness” whilst on holiday.

In trend with many other cruise lines recently Virgin has said that they will ban single use plastics.

Talking about the new cruise brand Richard Branson has reportedly said “”If there’s a female captain and a male captain, and they’re equally qualified, we’ll go with the female,” Branson said during an interview with Cruise Critic.

Really? Is equal opportunity going a little too far now? That does not sound equal to me. Anyway, that’s not the story.

Welcome Virgin to the cruise industry, no doubt you will have a lot to bring to it.
