New home, holiday and redundancy, all in 4 days!!!!

Well the end of September did not go by quietly.

After months of searching for our perfect home in a new town, with an office for me, plenty of bedrooms, a conservatory and most importantly a built-in dishwasher our solicitor called on the Friday to say all is complete and that we would be moving the following Wednesday, the 18th!!!

So, a quick call to work to get some late notice annual leave authorised, book a long based van for the day, calls to friends and my dad and we were ready for Wednesday. Van picked up at 9am, loaded by 10.30 and we were ready for the 1st load, or so we thought.

For the next 5 hours we sat in the garden, chatting as we waited for the keys to be released which finally happened at 3pm. We ended up doing our last load at 11pm, finally emptying the van at 1am!!!

Oh well, worse things happen.

The next 3 days was very tiring as I unpacked, put away, made flat pack cupboards etc but we had our Holiday to Turkey coming up in a few days and a perfect way to relax- Wrong.

We got up Sunday morning, not knowing if by the time we got to the airport would Thomas Cook still be in Business.

We took our trains to the airport, checked in and felt confident we would get on holiday.

The flight had a very strange atmosphere and was staffed by Condor and not Thomas Cook.

We got to our hotel at midnight, local time, checked in and went to bed, my partner stayed up all night watching the news, she was a Thomas Cook employee at the Peterborough head-office and was waiting on the announcement following the Sunday emergency meeting.

You know the history.

3 hours into our holiday and my partner had lost her job, sad times but we made sure we enjoyed our holiday, we also knew that there were friends out there in a lot worse position than us, Thomas Cooks had lots of husband and wife staff members, just like that they have nothing coming into the household 🙁

We got back home as per schedule, everything has settled down, we continued to un=pack into our new house and now wait to see where our new house and my partner’s new job (eventually) will take us.
