Naples plan an excursion

One of our recent ports of call on the lovely Ventura was Naples, somewhere I had really been looking forward to. I suppose the name just brings to mind  images of lazy cafes and people sitting around chatting with checkered tablecloths, a little different to that.

We docked early morning and actually stood on the back as the Ventura reversed in, as you can see the clouds were out !!

This is Naples port, we decided bravely to walk into the centre, it takes about 15 -20 minutes to get into the heart of the shops and museums, and it is uphill. Just below in the car park is a fabulous hop on/off bus, they do three different routes and start from €22 pp with no limits how many times you get on, to tell you we got a taxi back after walking in which cost €10 will put the cost in perspective. I think its worth it, we would have seen much more. But we did what we had planned to do and so enjoyed the walk and hopefully shed some of the weight gained from the previous few days !!

Naples itself has some Museums, charges are anything from €8-15 pp to gain entry so decide which ones really interest you, but the city itself quite frankly is a bit grubby, graffiti everywhere and the driving leaves a lot to be desired. When I stop a this port again I will do an excursion, and most likely Sorrento,   others did Pompeii from here and while tiring ( lots of walking), they found it very interesting. And of course it rained, again !

Of course all the people were running off the streets when the rain started, I have never seen so many umbrellas appear from nowhere so quickly, we looked at each other and where thinking  “bit of rain” no bother !!

It is really quick and easy getting on/off at this port, we were advised to take our passports, but there was no customs or checks to go through.

Next port for more news VENICE …………
