Cape Town sector of the world cruise

After living in Cape Town for over 20 years I do feel I have the expertise and knowledge to advise on what to do and even the best places to stay! So if you are planning to do this sector read on ……….

table mountain

The first absolute must is a trip on the cable car to the top of table mountain, do remember that August is a tricky month as they close once a year for maintenance, and this being the winter is the ideal time, so if you are going then you may not get on the cable car, you can still drive to the half way point, and some brave people have even walked up the rest of the way, but that really would be for the brave as August is usually wet and could be a bit slippy, to the right of Table Mountain is Signal Hill, for the people who are a little afraid of the cable car. If you drive up here there is a fantastic picnic spot, take the drive around 7pm in the summer, you can watch the sunset over the sea then watch as Cape Town lights up at night, it really is awesome.

Where would I stay ? If I were a first time visitor and did not want to drive too much, the waterfront is an ideal spot, lots of hotels in different price ranges, and from here you could do all of the excursion, restaurants, pubs galore. I will tell you about one of our favorite restaurants, not in the “trendy” part of the docks, you would need a cab to get there, but is has been around for years and a delightful experience to try the delicious local seafood and sushi, Panama Jacks ! Pick your own Crayfish to eat.

Another “must do” trip in my opinion is the wine route, there are several to choose from, the most commercial being Paarl &  Stellenbosch, while they are beautiful I can recommend going a bit further afield, hire a car (very cheap with our exchange rate). they drive on the same side as us ! take the Robertson wine route and maybe stay a night or two in Montagu where there is a hot spring, a wonderful site where again you can stay in chalets or the main hotel.

You may even recognize some of the names here , Graham Beck is an outstanding estate.

There are hundreds of places I could tell you about, feel free to phone me if you would like any advice or help planning your holiday !
