The scale of Rio de Janeiro cannot be emphasised enough. Highlights

  • Buenos Aires, Argentina

It’s easy to see how Buenos Aires created the tango, both of them being highly captivating and seductive. Visually similar to Europe (with a Latin American edge), the city is a sprawling metropolis filled with romantic restaurants, an unmatched nightlife and an aroma of passion that travels from its outer neighbourhoods through to its bustling centre.

  • Montevideo, Uruguay

The relatively small capital is the nation’s only major city, yet visitors do not come here in search of the hustle and bustle of a large metropolis. It is said that Montevideans themselves travel to Buenos Aires and São Paulo when they crave big city excitement. As Uruguay’s cultural, political and economic center, the city boasts a good number of monuments, museums and impressive architecture.

  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The scale of Rio de Janeiro cannot be emphasised enough. From ecstatic views atop Corcovado peak and Christ the Redeemer down to its sea of endlessly unique markets, one struggles to find fault with this perfect captivation of Brazilian culture. Famed for its often-spiritual bond with music, this is the only place where samba rhythm can truly be experienced

  • Salvador, Brazil

Salvador, formerly the capital of Brazil, now capital to Brazil's Northeast Bahia state and the third largest city after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Salvador is famed for its 17th century colonial architecture, and its varied landscape terrains. You are greeted by the tropical Barra beaches but venture deep into land, through the green rich colonial city and in the outreaches discover the harsh baron environment of the sertão, nothing thrives here but cacti. Salvador itself is a spectacular collective of African-Brazilian culture and known as the 'Capital of Joy', boasting amazing food and drink, a vibrant art and music scene and regular carnival and festival celebrations. Brazils beach paradise and a beautifully preserved 17th century gem.

An Impressive Week Onboard CMV Magellan!

By Caroline Kyle

Caroline Kyle's blog

I enjoyed the trip but I don’t think you always get the right impression of a cruise line on a mini cruise as I wasn’t overly impressed. However, all that changed as soo...
