ABOUT MS VOLENDAM

Typical Passengers

Volendam boasts a varied demographic, including a mixture of North American and European passengers spanning all age groups. It’s popular both with families with children as well as mature couples, solo travellers and groups of friends. There’s something for everyone in this comfortable mid-sized ship.

Ship Amenities

The ship stands out for its dark blue hull, matching other ships in the HAL fleet. It’s been cleverly designed to improve passenger flow and safety, and to this end you’ll find three passenger stairways and plenty of space for movement both inside and out. The Lido Deck features a spacious pool with a glass retractable dome, which ensure swimming in all forecasts. A secondary pool and children’s area ensure that there’s plenty of space for everyone to find their own moments of privacy. Inside the ship, the décor theme is based around flowers, so you’ll see a floral theme echoed throughout its plentiful public spaces. Visit the lofty atrium and you’ll see its impressive focal point, a massive crystal sculpture crafted by Italian glass artist Luciano Vistosi. The ship’s casino doubles as a sports bar, serving as a bustling space for socialising both day and night.

Cabin Amenities

There are 28 suites as well as a Penthouse Suite available on the Volendam. The rest of the accommodation consists of a blend of interior cabins, balcony cabins, and outside-view cabins. All are elegantly furnished with private bathrooms, shower tubs, toiletry cupboards, and infotainment systems. If you upgrade to one of the suites, you’ll also receive cocktail hour canapes, complimentary laundry services, personalised stationery, and priority concierge services. The Penthouse Suite offers the highest level of luxury on the ship, outfitted with a separate living space from the bedroom including a baby grand piano. There’s also a full dining room, dressing room, butler’s pantry and private balcony as well as a walk-in closet. Penthouse guests can recline in the Jacuzzi and enjoy a fully stocked wet bar.

Dining Options

Dining onboard Volendam includes a spacious main restaurant called the Rotterdam Dining Room. This grand space spreads out for two decks, with a choice of open or fixed seating times to serve you in style. Tables seat anywhere from two to eight guests at once for dinner services. If you’re in the mood for something different during your cruise, you can make reservations at the extra-cost Pinnacle Grill. This chic restaurant serves food with a Pacific Northwest slant, including freshly caught seafood, premium steaks and seasonal produce. In addition to these two main restaurants, you can visit the Lido Buffet for breakfast, lunch or casual dinner services. One section of the buffet features Italian cuisine, called Canaletto, and there’s also a poolside area to dish up barbecue fare, burgers and fries.

Entertainment

Evenings are full of fun and frolic, whether you visit the casino and sports bar or head to the main Frans Hals Show Lounge. This stylish theatre offers two decks of seating, and hosts a range of cabaret acts and musical revues to keep passengers entertained.

Sports and Wellness

Onboard activities range from a jogging track to shuffleboard and tennis courts. You can also keep fit by strolling around the walk-around promenade deck, admiring ocean views along the way. Steiner Leisure operates the onboard spa, which offers fitness classes, a high-tech gym, and private rooms for massages or beauty treatments. Saunas and steam rooms are also on hand to help you unleash your inner glow!

On sea days my husband joined in with a crowd playing pickleball, a kind if short tennis game and enjoyed it very much.
