ABOUT SPIRIT OF DISCOVERY

Typical Passengers

Saga specialises in cruises for the over-50 crowd, so you can expect that Spirit of Discovery attracts a similar demographic of mature travellers. This ship includes a significant number of cabins specially designed for solo passengers, creating a sociable atmosphere on board in public spaces – get ready to mix and mingle!

Ship Amenities

This sleek ship was been designed by SMC Design, who have previously worked with Norwegian Cruise Line, Viking Cruises and others. They’ve brought this expertise to craft the chic décor both inside and out of Spirit of Discovery. There are plentiful spaces to enjoy a drink, converse with new friends, or simply relax. The Living Room is bound to be the ship’s social hub, with a bright, inviting ambience. It’s the perfect spot to sit with a coffee and pastry by day, or glass of champagne by night. You can attend lectures from fascinating guest speakers in the Britannia Lounge, or catch a movie in the Playhouse. The Library offers a cosy atmosphere inviting you to come in and stay awhile as you peruse its fiction and non-fiction titles or make yourself a cup of tea in the open kitchen. Would you prefer to soak in the sun? Visit the outdoor pool area, with its plentiful loungers and duo of hot tubs.

Cabin Amenities

All cabins and suites onboard Spirit of Discovery include a private balcony, meaning you don’t have to travel far to admire the sea views and fresh air! Of the 540 staterooms, over 100 of these are designed for solo passengers. Single cabins are available at all levels, ranging from standard to suite, a unique feature for a cruise ship! The majority of cabins are standard twins, but you can upgrade to a twin deluxe or spacious suite. Suites offer separate living and dining spaces in addition to the bedroom, tastefully furnished for your enjoyment.

Dining Options

There are five restaurants onboard the Spirit of Discovery, starting with the Grand Dining Room. This elegant space features glittering chandeliers and panoramic windows, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner service. In the afternoon, you can treat yourself to a traditional afternoon tea here as well. Additional outlets include The Club by Jools Holland, a signature 1950s-styled concept designed in collaboration with the celebrity musician and entertainer. Enjoy all the flavours of Asia at East to West, which features dishes stemming from Thailand, Sri Lanka, China and India. For casual dining, there’s the indoor/outdoor space at the Grill and Verandah, perfect for those who enjoy taking their meal on the terrace. And in a first for this cruise line, Spirit of Discovery offers a new seafood restaurant called Coast to Coast.

Entertainment

The Britannia Lounge hosts live entertainment each evening, with dance specials, live music, and intriguing guest lectures. Enjoy a glass of champagne in the Living Room lounge, or visit the Playhouse venue to enjoy live theatrical performances from the resident troupe.

Sports and Wellness

Keep fit and have fun in the ship’s modern gym, which offers a full calendar of classes to get you up and moving! Try something new, from yoga to Pilates, or book a one-to-one session with a personal trainer. Afterwards, indulge yourself with a pampering spa visit. Massages, saunas, steam rooms and a hydrotherapy pool are all on offer here.

The speciality restaurants were first class and service was excellent. Plenty of places to sit and relax through the day. Outside space was good. Always plenty of seats.

The ship is brilliant, quite stunning and very different. The food was wonderful and the staff were very attentive. The stateroom and bathroom were of a generous size.
