6 Months And Counting!

I can’t believe it’s only a little over 6 months before P&O’s latest ship Iona will be setting sail for it’s maiden voyage. The 183,900 tonne vessel will hold up 5,200 passengers and will become the largest ship within the P&O fleet and the UK market. Iona will feature a new entertainment hub called The Dome, this star attraction will come in the form of a clear sky dome, pool with retractable stage, water feature and whirlpools. It will act as an all-weather venue for all day entertainment and informal dining and will be one of four primary entertainment spaces on-board the new vessel. The Dome will also come alive at night with aerial performances, projection onto the roof and immersive shows.

First Astonishing Details Of P&O’s 2020 Record-Breaking Ship Revealed

P&O has revealed that guests on-board will be spoiled for choice for dining, entertainment, socialising and relaxation options:

  • 17 places to eat
  • 7 speciality restaurants
  • 12 places to enjoy a drink and see the sea
  • 13 entertainment venues from the theatre to adult only venues
  • Three pop-up entertainment spaces/venues
  • 16 whirlpools
  • 4 swimming pools (three outside, one inside)
  • 9 places to have breakfast
  • 5 places to enjoy afternoon tea
  • 7 places to have coffee

It doesn’t just stop there though as P&O have confirmed a second 183,900 tonne ship is now on order for delivery in 2022. Both vessels will be the largest cruise ships ever built for the British market and are being built by Meyer Werft at its shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The ship will be the most environmentally efficient in P&O Cruises history with “green cruising” design using liquefied natural gas (LNG) to generate the primary source of power both in port and on the open sea. This will significantly reduce exhaust emissions to help protect the environment in support of the company’s sustainability goals.

I am actually booked with my family for next October on Iona and can’t wait to see what this new ship will have to offer and how she compares to the other ships in the P&O fleet.

Are you booked for Iona for next summer or for 2021? Is it a ship that is of interest to you?
