Northern Lights in Summer??

You may have read the title and think what??!! Northern lights watching in summer, how is that possible.

Well the Northern lights are just as active throughout the summer months as they are in winter. But of course during the winter months it is darker longer and so a stronger possibility of seeing this amazing phenomenon.

So where is best for the chance to see the Aurora Borealis during summer?

Well of course Norway and Lapland has probably a slim chance since it can be pretty much daylight 24 hours a day.

However Canada, particularly the Canadian Rockies and Alaska wold have a pretty strong chance. Sunshine village, Banffs ski resort at almost 3000 meters  above sea level has had some pretty spectacular shows this year. You can take the gondola up to the Sunshine hotel and resort and spend time here in search of the northern lights.

Traditionally the best time to see the Northern Lights is Oct-March, but even in winter particularly when it is snowing and cloudy you will not see the lights, in summer, if you are lucky enough, the night skies are pretty clear and so even more a great show.

I have been lucky enough to have seen the Northern Lights a few times, since we ski most years in Lapland, this year we are off to Banff and Sunshine village, although in  the winter months Lapland is better than Banff.

We have some amazing trips that take in the opportunity to view this fantastic sight. And having seen them a few times now I can say that it is a must, a definite one for the bucket list…. If you are interested in any cruise Northern Light hunting, then be sure to let me know. 🙂
