May not be Day of the Dead just yet for Thomas Cook staff

Hays travel have come to the rescue to the delight of many Thomas Cook retail travel agents up and down the country this week.

Fantastic news from John Hays as they announce they are set to buy 551 Thomas cook shops on the high street.
This will save many retail jobs for all the travel agents left without a job.
Hays will triple its high street presence with this and has already employed over 600 Thomas cook agents and looking to recruit more with 2500 who lost their jobs.
Some of the Thomas cook shops could be reopened immediately and any rebrand would come later down the line. They will operate of course as Hays travel not Thomas cook.
Hays have taken the time to pursue this as their first priority was to ensure any existing Thomas cook guests booked on holidays were taken care of first and repatriations took place. Then the deals began in relation to acquiring the high street shops.
It is not known how much Hays paid for the deal but said all parties were happy with the negotiation.
With regards to any towns where Hays already have a shop, including my town John Hays said the following:
“In towns  and cities where we have an overlap, where we have under-performing shops, we will do what any business would do – and have a look at them.”
Hays travel has been running for over 40 years and wishing them all the success in this future investment.
