Report on the Amadeus Queen

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of sampling a river cruise. I joined the ship in Amsterdam and disembarked in Rotterdam after two days of sampling the atmosphere on board and guided excursions in Amsterdam and Antwerp.

I was on board a small river ship which at a full capacity takes a total of only 162 guests in 81 cabins spread across low, middle and high deck. Has a total of 4 decks including the sun deck. At the bow It has one restaurant on middle deck, one bar/Lounge on the high deck and at the back there is a small gym and an indoor swimming pool with a lounge area.

My overall impression was good, the cabins looked beautiful with well appointed bedrooms, bathrooms and storage space. The communal areas are stylish with a calm colour scheme.

There are three types of cabins available on board:

Window staterooms with a head high window on low deck

Balcony stateroom with a drop down window and two chairs on the inside of the cabin on middle deck

Amadeus Suite on high deck, a bigger room and a lounge area with a sofa and with a small walk out balcony

The Sun Deck outdoor of course is a place for a drink or two at the Lido Bar, it’s the ideal place for a full view during sailing. Here you can find some deck games like a Chess Board and Shuffleboard

River cruises are very different to ocean cruises mainly due to the difference in size which limit the facilities and entertainment. River cruises offer great itineraries due their stops in the heart of the cities along the rivers. Morning excursions are always included which means you are making the most of each stop, leaving time for the afternoon at leisure. Ideal for people who like small hotels but also looking to explore different destinations and have a great place to stay and a delicious meal in the evening.

My conclusion was The Amadeus Queen River cruise is a small luxurious River ship with fantastic staff on board offering great excursions, great food and comfortable accommodation
