Additional wows on the Independence of the seas – Part 1

I have returned from a fantastic trip on the Independence of the Seas and I have to say what a great ship she is!! The Independence of the Seas has just come back from her first refit after her 10th birthday which is why I paid a visit. I went last October before the refit and I was pleased to be able to compare the before and after experience. She needed some attention in certain areas and I was pleased to see it’s all been addressed. All carpeting throughout the public areas has been replaced, all decking furniture has also been replaced with contemporary bright colours including new sun loungers in every area. I am sorry to say the cabins haven’t been touched, no carpets or curtains have been changed. I’m not sure if Royal Caribbean has plans to change these in the near future as I don’t think they will last another 10 years. Every public area looked lovely and was very clean and some bars had a facelift too but the main attraction this time was the extra additions on board. The brand new Sky Pad, Escape room and laser tag, all designated to entertain children and teenagers as well as the young at heart!! With these extra activities, there is no chance for a boring afternoon at sea and you’ll be glad to have the days at sea during the itinerary, what’s even better is the extra facilities are all free of charge. The shows were amazing and very entertaining, the programs change but they had two different shows each day plus extra repeats later on in the evening. I watched the permanent onboard acts which are Greece the musical, Ice show in the Studio B Ice skating arena and Take That experience. I would highly recommend all the shows as a must do or you’ll be missing out! The theatre and Studio B were full so I recommend to take seats approximately 20-30 minutes before the show starts, drinks are served at the Studio B during the show and you can take your own drink in the Theatre. Whilst on board we had a behind the scenes tour including the kitchen, the engine room and the bridge. I was surprised to learn what I did but it’s no wonder when you think how organised everything has to be when catering for 4,350 guests at full capacity. I shall tell you about it on part 2 of my blog
