Venice – Are we in or out

After telling many passengers over the last six months they better book now before it’s too late to sail into Venice it would seem the tables have turned again. The ban which was put in place in November has now been lifting allowing ships in excess of 96,000 gross tonnes to once again sail along the Guidecca canal into the Cities main cruise terminal.

It would seem that Venice do not want to risk losing the 300,000 cruise passengers that keep their tourism industry booming. However has the damage already been done?
Many of the cruise lines have already put their 2016 itineraries in place respecting the decision, and even though the ban has been lifted many lines with larger ship are still happy to wait for an alternative route to be investigated.

I do appreciate we need to protect such beautiful cities but without the tourism trade they would surely fall into dis-repair anyway.

What do you think, has the right decision been made?
