Should Modern luxury mean moderrn art?

Now maybe I am slightly maturing in my mid 30’s but one aspect of cruising that I enjoy, and did not realise quite how much until recently is admiring art work on board cruise ships. It’s a well-known fact that more art work is sold on cruise ships than any other location in the world.

Whilst on-board I have been known to take ten flights of stairs just to peruse the artwork on every staircase landing and decide which ones I would buy if I had pots of money and plenty of wall space to hang them on. Now I’m talking landscapes to get lost in, passionate expressive dancers, loving romantic couples, busy city streets, melting sun sets, you know the ones.  So you can imagine my disappointment when I stepped on board the Celebrity Infinity to find what I can only describe as, well I can’t really write the exact words I used, I’ll be polite and call it modern art not to my taste. To say each ‘piece’ was a talking point was an understatement! Most passengers strolled by mistaking object for coat hooks. I can only imagine that Celebrity carrying the tag line ‘Modern luxury’ think that this should also apply to all the art being modern as well.

As I strolled through one of the lounges I noticed one of the art auctions taking place with some fantastic pieces going up for bidding, beautiful landscapes, vibrant colour oil paintings, Celebrity obviously kept these locked away downstairs in storage. What a shame!  I understand that Celebrity must think that to create this ambiance of relaxation these piece’s would do the trick, frankly I found them hideous, my four year old niece has bought home better art work from pre-school.

I though it only right to bring home a sample of memoirs to share with you to remind me just how bad it was. See what you think?

And this wonderful object I had the delight of passing on my way into the dining room every evening!!!!!!!!! Can’t imagine what it is suposed to represent!!
